Several smaller rivers flow through the highlands, including the famous Kachalong and Machalong. To reach the valley, one must overcome obstacles like the Mayni range and Mayni river. The journey involves steep ascents and descents.
The native inhabitants of Sajek valley are considered an ethnic minority group. They speak various languages, including Chakma, Marma, Tripura, Pankua, and Sagma. Women appear to be increasingly involved in economic activities, particularly in customer-facing roles such as tea stalls, food establishments, and roadside markets. The locals are generally kind, hospitable, and friendly.
The early morning harvesting of fruits and vegetables is a vital economic activity in the area. While the locals may not be proficient in Bengali, the younger generation speaks English with confidence.
